Jacob Hess, 20, was fatally shot by a friend from high school, Dylan Goodin, 21. Goodin faces charges, including manslaughter, after the incident where three individuals in their 20s were handling a gun in a neighborhood home.

One person was killed after an apparent homicide shooting between friends in Davis County.

According to the Bountiful Police Department, the shooting occurred just before 11:30 a.m. near 615 Millcreek Way. Police said they responded to a call about shots fired. When they arrived, they found a 20-year-old man had been shot in the chest.

Police said the victim and suspect knew each other; they went to high school together.

The victim, later identified as Jacob Hess of North Salt Lake, was pronounced dead on scene.

The suspect, 21-year-old Dylan Goodin, went to the hospital for a hand injury. Officers said he cooperated with the investigation and they also interviewed witnesses.

They believed the shooting happened in a bedroom inside a neighborhood home. Police had also learned that three males in their 20s were handling a gun when it went off.

“A search warrant was obtained for the residence where drugs, alcohol, and drug paraphernalia were located, in addition to the firearm involved in the shooting,” police said in a news release Friday night.

Goodin was arrested and booked into the Davis County Jail on several criminal counts including manslaughter, a second-degree felony.
