Florence Baer Obituary: Winchester, Virginia – On March 2, 2024, the world bid farewell to a remarkable woman, Florence Gragan Baer, known affectionately as Flo. At the age of 91, surrounded by the love of her daughters, Flo passed away peacefully at Blue Ridge Hospice, Winchester, Virginia, succumbing to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born on August 29, 1932, to John Marshall Gragan and Vergie Lyon Gragan, Flo spent her formative years in the scenic landscapes of St. Mary’s County, Maryland. Her educational journey led her to Strayer’s Business College, laying the foundation for a successful career in the accounting profession, where she dedicated over four decades of her life.

On December 20, 1952, Flo embarked on a lifelong journey with the love of her life, John Carlyle Baer, a U.S. Air Force Lieutenant. Their union was a testament to enduring love and commitment as they explored the world together, settling in McLean, Virginia, and raising a loving family of three daughters.

Flo’s zest for life was evident in her love for travel, with a special fondness for the Outer Banks. Whether she was nurturing her garden, delighting in the presence of birds, cherishing Boston Terriers, or spending quality time with family and friends, Flo approached life with a genuine spirit and an infectious enthusiasm.

Her dedication extended to the community as an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday school and served on the altar guild. Flo’s generosity, warmth, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on those around her.

On March 18, 2024, at 12 p.m., friends and family will gather at St. John’s Episcopal Church, located at 6715 Georgetown Pike, McLean, Virginia, to pay their final respects and celebrate the life of Florence Gragan Baer.
