The Florida Highway Patrol is looking into a collision that happened in Highlands County on Monday and killed the rider and his companion. Around 6:30 p.m., according to troopers, a 40-year-old man from Sebring was traveling east on US 98 in the left turn lane when he approached the junction of Madrid Drive.

Authorities say a 42-year-old male was approaching the intersection of Madrid Drive on US 98 while operating a motorcycle in a westward direction. According to the troopers, the pickup vehicle made a left turn at the junction in front of the motorcycle that was approaching and struck the bike’s right side. The motorcyclist and his passenger, a 53-year-old woman, were flung from the motorcycle and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to preliminary findings.
