Helen Carstens Obituary: Former City of Cape Town Ward Councillor, Ward 5 who passed away last week Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2023.

The entire City of Cape Town community is mourning the tragic demise of the former City of Cape Town Ward Councillor. Helen Carstens worked as a Newspaper Editor and a Motoring Journalist before becoming the Councillor of the City of Cape Town. According to reports, Helen died after a medical emergency.

Following Helen’s death, Western Cape Edgemead Library released the following statements; “Edgemead Library would like to offer our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our previous Ward Councillor, Helen Carstens, who passed away on 16.12.2023. May she rest in peace. Helen touched the hearts and lives of so many of the patrons of the Library and residents of Ward 5. Her passion made the much-needed extension to the Library a reality.”

“We are saddened by her passing. She will truly be missed. Bothasig Neighbourhood Watch extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the previous Councillor Helen Carstens’s untimely passing. We thank her for her dedication to the community of Ward 5 and assistance in the facilitation of donations from the city in capacitating the neighbourhood watches across Ward 5 during her tenure as Councillor. May she rest in Peace.”
