Una Bowden, 47, and her two daughters Ciara, 14, and Saoirse, 9, were tragically killed in a horror crash in Mayo on Tuesday.

They died instantly when their vehicle collided with a fuel lorry on the N17 outside Claremorris, Co Mayo.

The family, originally from Moycullen in Galway, had recently moved into their new house. David, the father and husband, was working in Africa and was informed of the tragic news late on Tuesday night as he made his way home to Ireland. The mother and her children were returning from a visit to family in Donegal when they were involved in a fatal road accident in Co Mayo.

The family had resided in Gortachalla, Moycullen, Co Galway, for several years, and the girls attended local schools. Ciara was a first-year student at Salerno Secondary School in Galway City, while Saoirse was in third class at Scoil Naomh Bride, Tullykyne National School in Moycullen.

Ms. Carlin Bowden’s husband, David Bowden, works as a senior project manager for the UN and was expected to arrive back in Ireland last night. Gardaí took many hours to contact Mr. Bowden, who was working on a major humanitarian project in Ethiopia.

Ms. Carlin Bowden herself was originally from the Raphoe area of Co Donegal.
