Gianna Lamb Car Accident: 12-year-old Plainfield IL girl died
Gianna Lamb Car Accident: The communities of Plainfield, Illinois, and Heritage Grove Middle School are in mourning following the tragic death of 12-year-old Gianna Lamb, a middle school student who lost her life in a car accident on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Illinois Route 59 in the south suburbs when Gianna was hit by a vehicle while attempting to escape from another crash.
The series of accidents unfolded around 8:30 p.m. near Route 59 and Riverwalk Court, according to local authorities. The initial collision involved a Nissan Rogue and a Toyota Rav4, with the Nissan turning at the intersection without yielding properly to the Toyota. Gianna was a passenger in the Nissan.
As she exited the vehicle and tried to flee the scene, she was struck by a northbound Ford Fusion on Route 59. The young girl was rushed to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital and subsequently to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
After an extensive investigation, both highways have been reopened, as confirmed by the police. Pastor John Ciesniewski revealed that the three vehicles involved in the crashes were driven by members of the local Community Christian Church during a StuCo Celebration Service. Ciesniewski highlighted the dangerous history of the crossroads, with at least seven collisions in the past two years, emphasizing the absence of a traffic light.
Despite efforts from the church, the Illinois Department of Transportation has not installed a traffic light. The Plainfield Police Department and Illinois State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic crashes.
