Matthew Paritz Franklin TN: Bicyclist Matthew Paritz, 54, of Franklin, was the victim who was hit and killed at Mack Hatcher Memorial Parkway.

Multiple first responders responded to the crash at about 11 a.m. Saturday. According to reports from the Franklin Police Department, the driver, identified as Denilson Hidalgo Orozco, who is 23 years old and is from the state of Washington, has been taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence.

A U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Campbell has been charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence after Franklin Police said he struck and killed a cyclist on Saturday morning while driving.

Paritz died at the scene, and Hidalgo-Orozco was transported to Williamson Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Hidalgo-Orozco’s mug shot showed him with a bandaged head.

Police executed a blood sample search warrant and said that Hidalgo-Orozco admitted to driving at the time of the 9 a.m. crash.

“The Defendant admitted to consuming 4 beers at a bar in Nashville on Friday (12/15/2023) evening but was still emitting a strong odor of alcohol from his person at the time of the collision,” the affidavit reads.

Investigators say Hidalgo Orozco Denilson, of Washington, was under the influence when he crashed into Paritz. Hidalgo-Orozco was booked into the Williamson County Jail on a $400,000 bond
