Jeff Byars Obituary: Jeff Byars, a resident of Arroyo Grande, California, Arroyo Grande High School’s beloved teacher and coach has sadly passed away.

Coach Jeff Byars of Arroyo Grande High School’s boys basketball team announced his resignation from the position in 2004 after leading the team to two league titles. He kept up his teaching of business classes and his role as the school’s golf coach. After playing basketball for coach Mario Pecile at Arroyo Grande High School, Byars transferred to Cal Poly to play football.

During his five years as the girl’s basketball coach in the late 1980s, he guided the Lady Eagles to two league titles. After that, he spent nine years coaching the varsity team and the lower-level youngsters. In 1999 and 2001, he led the boy’s program to consecutive league titles as their coach.

He has coached golf for a very long time. Byars stated he continues to be involved in his former teammates’ lives and still enjoys talking to them.

Jeff was a distinguished alumni of AGHS and he went on to play football at Cal Poly. Jeff began his career at AG coaching basketball in 1986 and teaching in 1992. Throughout his years he coached girls and boys basketball, baseball, and football and most recently was our boys golf coach Jeff was a true Eagle and will be missed in the classroom and on the fields!
