Vela Lorene Freeman Obituary: Star City, women passed away at 88

Vela Lorene Freeman Obituary- Death: Vela Lorene Freeman, aged 88, of Star City, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at The Greenhouse Cottages of Southern Hills in Rison.

She was born on September 15, 1935, in Keo, to the late Jeff and Dovie Dempsey Waddle. Vela was a devoted member of First Assembly of God Church in Star City and enjoyed a fulfilling career as a poultry farmer before retirement. She had a deep passion for gardening, particularly tending to her beloved roses.

In addition to her parents, Vela was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Freeman, whom she married on February 12, 1952, and two daughters, Shirley Newkirk and Kathy Kirtley.

Survivors include her sister, Betty Freeman of Pine Bluff; two grandchildren, Jerry Don Vincent and Lindsay Kirtley; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Griffin Funeral Chapel in Star City.

Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at Griffin Funeral Chapel with Bro. Justin Holt officiating. A graveside service will take place at 3:00 PM on Wednesday at Mulberry Cemetery in England. Pallbearers will be Merwin Fowler, Geary Holstead, Danny McTigrit, Olen Bates, Mike Weast, and Justin Fowler.
