John Grassia Obituary: Schalmont High School alumnus died at 30

John Grassia Obituary: John Michael Grassia III, affectionately known as J. Michael or J, passed away on March 8, 2024, at the age of 30.

His journey in this world was marked by courage and selflessness, and his untimely departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. Born on December 6, 1993, in Niskayuna, New York, J was the fearless youngest child of John Michael Grassia Jr. and Judith (Poltorak) Grassia.

From an early age, John demonstrated a passion for service, enlisting in the Army National Guard immediately after graduating from Schalmont High School in 2012. He served his nation with distinction, receiving numerous awards and decorations for his exemplary service.

John is survived by his parents, John Michael Grassia Jr. and Judith (Poltorak) Grassia; sisters, Gina (Ryan) McDermott and Krista (Marcus) Rotondi; cherished nieces and nephews, Declan and Liliana McDermott and JJ, Frankie, and Mila Rotondi; loving aunts and uncles, as well as many cousins and extended family members.

Calling hours for John will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 2 pm – 7 pm at St. John the Evangelist Church, Schenectady, NY, with a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 11 am. Interment with full military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery,
