Barry Obituary: The life of 1st Sergeant Bernardine (Barry) White was a testament to courage, love, and dedication. His family and friends gather to honor a man who lived with boldness and sincerity. Bernardine, known affectionately as Barry, touched the lives of many as a sibling, husband, father, friend, and dedicated soldier. His passing on January 26, 2024, at the age of 67, has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Bernardine was born on June 22, 1956, in Madison, Mississippi, to Josephine and James White. He was the youngest of 10 children. In April 1974, Bernardine embarked on a distinguished military career by joining the United States Army as a 95B. It was during his early years of service that he met the love of his life, Pamela Benavidez, in Hawaii. They married on June 15, 1977, in Enterprise, Alabama, and shared a profound bond throughout their lives.
Rising to the rank of First Sergeant, Bernardine made a lasting impact on those around him while stationed in Germany and White Sands, NM. After 22 years of dedicated service, he retired from White Sands Missile Range. Subsequently, Bernardine joined the United States Postal Service, where he continued to serve others with his enormous heart and passion. He retired from the postal service in February 2016.
Barry is survived by his devoted wife, Pamela, his son, Paul Kekuewa (Faith), his daughter, Angela White-Lowery (John), three grandchildren, Ashlee, Estevan, and Josalyn, and three great-grandchildren, Je’lani, Ryland, and Khaos. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members whom he cherished deeply.
A ceremony to honor and lay 1st Sergeant Bernardine (Barry) White to rest will take place on Thursday, February 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave., El Paso, TX 79906. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were touched by his kindness, courage, and unwavering dedication. Barry’s legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
