Marion Byers Obituary: Piqua, Marion Byers passed away at 77

Marion Byers Obituary: Marion “Sonny” Byers, II, aged 77, of Piqua, passed away at 6:10 PM on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County in Troy, OH.

He was born in Piqua on August 23, 1946, to Betty L. (Lansgton) Byers and the late Marion G. Byers, I. On May 12, 1984, in Piqua, he married Vickie Byers, who preceded him in death on May 31, 2023.

Sonny graduated from Piqua High School and furthered his education at Edison State Community College for 2 years, focusing on classes related to Hartzell Propeller. He was an active member of Fletcher United Methodist Church, serving as an usher, and dedicated his time to volunteering at Bethany Center, Piqua. Sonny proudly served his country as a member of the US Army from 1965 to 1967 at Ft. Carson, CO, where he worked as a Gas and Diesel Tanker Driver. He then embarked on a career at Champion Paper for 10 years before transitioning to Hartzell Propeller, where he dedicated 35 years of service before retiring.

A celebration of Sonny’s life will be announced at a later date. Services have been entrusted to Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home in Piqua, OH.
